The Q at Parkside

(for those for whom the Parkside Q is their hometrain)

News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

33 Lincoln Posts Renderings

While riding up and down the Flabenue for kicks, watching the slow-mo figuring out of traffic by befuddled motorists, I noticed that Tom Anderson has put up renderings of his new building that will straddle the Q/B/S stop at Prospect Park.

Sorry for the night vision pics, but this is pretty clear:

Seriously....It looks like a penitentary. Yikes.

Seriously all everyone does here is complain. Complain when someone builds. Complain when they don't... Sheesh!

Suddenly the glass tower doesn't look so bad eh?

Complaining is what blogs were made for. Don't expect people who like it to bother commenting.

It's fine. No AIA accolades in its future, but totally serviceable.

If you haven't strolled the borough recently, you'll notice that ugly begets ugly. Though 10 years ago all anyone was building was Fedders motel-looking curbcut styrofoam sided trash, like at Bedford and Parkside, and here you have a decent apartment building with affordable units and rent stabilization.

I've corresponded with Tom Anderson a bit and I have every reason to believe he is the sort of landlord/developer we could use a lot more of around here.

The vacant lot is finally going to be a lot less vacant. Godspeed.

I'm just hoping some of the displaced will get in, and be able to afford it. The constant stories of frustration and helplessness are really starting to depress me.

I am glad the vacant lot is GONE. This is a decent building and may bring more decent into the nabe.
Flatbed is right - ugly brings ugly. Take a look at the trash surrounding almost every tree around Flatbush/Parkside. This kind of development will put pressure on absentee landlords/tenants to clean up.

I think it looks fine. I have no issue with this building

Please stop courting Tom Anderson to build more here. I much rather prefer Hudson's 626 Flatbush design. Deeper pockets will also help alleviate the crime wave in PLG.

I liked the earlier renderings better, but hey, I'll take it! Looking forward to the retail as well!

It doesn't look that big. Seems alright to me... and it doesn't look too different from the renderings back in July.

I, for one, welcome our new Fedders overlords.

It doesn't seem he's a bad developer. But the building had to be built for a certain price. This is what kind of development it is, a low-rise, affordable rental building, not a highrise market rate condo who can afford to use more expensive materials. It's not awful when shown brand new. I agree with somebody else who has said it won't age well. A stark white building is going to look dingy and awful very soon after completion. It's just not what you build in NYC. Can't they at least change it gray cement color?
